Forgotten
I was looking for relatives in Prospect Cemetery recently and I walked by this displaced marker:
The ages and dates drew my eye. I looked up their records and found this:
Three children, a brother and a sister as well as their next door neighbour killed by a disease that we now have vaccines to inoculate against.
I think oftentimes we take these things for granted. It is certainly the genealogist’s lot to be constantly reminded of the terrible diseases of the past but it is also our obligation to remind others. Accordingly, I discharge my responsibility and pass on these children’s story.
Next time you see some idiot mouthing off about the medicines that have made these tragedies rare show them this or something like it.
