Hi Clare,

I’m writing with regards the recent drive for the HPV vaccine.  As you may be aware, this particular public health campaign has suffered from disinformation and scaremongering which has impacted the uptake of what is a life saving vaccine.
I had addressed you on Twitter, perhaps you may have missed it, that your questions answered to the Minister of Health, answered 26 March 2019, were published widely in an edited context by organisations that are of an anti vaccine nature and who do much to undermine confidence in this vaccine.
An example of this can be found on the Facebook page of R.E.G.R.E.T.  – https://www.facebook.com/REGRET.ie/posts/2443156889028187
The attached images do not give the full answer and your questions are being used to suggest that there is something untoward about the vaccine with regards injuries.  As you will know from the answers supplied by the Minister, there is nothing unsafe about the vaccine.

I find it a little odd that you would ask questions that are readily answered in reputable journals and by HPRA on their website but I suppose you just want to be certain before adopting a position.

Now that you have the answers and now that your questions are being used as part of a propaganda campaign that endangers my daughter and the women of Ireland by undermining useful medicine will you confirm your support for this vaccine drive in writing or in public?

This would be of great help in assuaging the concerns of parents less knowledgeable about the repercussions of this vaccine.

Those of us who campaign against the disinformation would also find this a particularly useful tool in the fight to save lives.

Kind regards,

Thomas Brunkard
